Paramore and clogged toilets

Earlier this week I was enjoying the latest episode of Good Hang. The guest was Hayley Williams, who I mainly know from listening to her band Paramore’s song Misery Business on repeat while getting ready to go out to Angels and Kings.

I really enjoyed the episode, so after I went on a Paramore/Hayley Williams rabbit hole. This was my favorite video I found: Fan Falls Over On Stage With Paramore.

In the short clip, Paramore has a fan come up from the audience to sing with them. About halfway through, the fan trips and falls… but instantly the entire band (!) lays down on the floor with her, so her falling looks intentional. And then, they let the fan get up first so it looks like she is leading the moves. They very kindly and without making a big deal of it, made someone’s embarrassing moment less embarrassing. Just like this scene from Billy Madison!

If you want to help someone feel less embarrassed, show them or tell them it has happened to you, too. An “I did that once too!” or a “let me help make this mistake look intentional!”goes a long way.

So I’ll go first: if you ever clog a toilet, think of me. I clogged a toilet so bad at my first job, the toilet overflowed and caved the ceiling in on the floor below us. It was at an office building in Times Square and all I remember is the other tenants rushing upstairs to our floor, throwing open the door, and saying “it’s the Titanic down here!” I DIED! GOOD TIMES! But hey, if you clog a toilet: you’re not alone.
