"How I Use AI to Plan My Children’s Future and Everyday Life"

A guest essay by the founder & CEO of Style Space, Jenny Eversole.

I met Jenny Eversole after we both appeared on 2022 episodes of the podcast Best of Both Worlds (her episode is here, mine is here ). We became friends after Zooming, and then I became an advisor to her wonderful company Style Space, which offers 1:1 image consulting and interactive styling events to executives and leaders. Last week on LinkedIn I noticed that Jenny responded to a great comment thread on how she uses AI in parenting. I thought her advice was so unique, I asked her to expand on it for Beck on Tech. Below is Jenny’s great write-up; enjoy!

How I Use AI to Plan My Children’s Future and Everyday Life

As a mother and business owner, my days are filled with decisions—both big and small—that shape my children’s lives and the direction of my company. One of the most powerful tools I use to navigate this complexity is AI, specifically ChatGPT. While many parents turn to AI for scheduling and task management, I take it a step further: I use it to long-term plan my children’s lives, ensuring that their everyday experiences align with a larger vision for their future.

My philosophy as a mother is to expose my children to as many opportunities and experiences as possible. I set the course, provide guidance, and let them choose their own path. To do this, I’ve created a roadmap of skills and experiences I want them to acquire before they leave home as adults. I voice dictate all of these ideas to ChatGPT. These ideas include things like mastering multiple languages, building meaningful friendships, developing a passion for learning, gardening and farming, cooking, acing interviews, personal branding, website design, sales, starting a business, and even wilderness survival skills—like navigating a forest with a compass and spending a night in the wild building their own shelter. This list might sound a little random, but it’s intentional. These are life skills that will make them adaptable, confident, and well-rounded. Your list for your children will look different, tailored to your own values and experiences, but the goal remains the same: to prepare them for life.

I grew up in various places across the U.S. and Canada (and even spent six months in Germany), with an adventurous upbringing that shaped who I am today. My childhood was filled with remote camping, climbing tough mountains, flying planes with my pilot father, and learning the art of business and sales from my fine-artist mother. I studied abroad, mastered a second language, and even moved to a new country. Each of these experiences gave me confidence, resilience, and a deep appreciation for lifelong learning. I want to create a childhood for my kids with similar experiences and add many other ideas of my own.

Using AI, I’ve taken this vision and built a structured plan. I’ve asked ChatGPT to break down each milestone for my children by year, month, and even week, helping me create a strategy that ensures they develop the skills and interests that will serve them well. I store this plan under a dedicated ChatGPT folder—Building My Children’s Future—which acts as a living document that I refine as they grow. I can even drill down to the day or week and ask AI for a list of local activities based on our current milestone. For example, on Fridays, I use a prompt like:

“Considering the weather, our current children’s milestone, and local events, what should we do this weekend? I want to plan for some downtime for rest, reading, and errands. Give me a list and make a plan.”

The coolest part about this is you can dictate these ChatGPT messages on your phone while you’re taking a walk or sitting in the carpool line and it will spit out incredible ideas in seconds. You can also put in prompts like “help me find a birthday or Christmas gift based off of our developmental milestones” or “plan week-by-week summer activities based off of things we want to learn” or “suggest sports groups, summer camps locally that fit with our development goals” or “my child is struggling with reading, how can I help them learn based on their areas of interest?”

This ChatGPT folder acts as a master planning guide and reference tool. Without this tool, it would’ve taken me weeks or months to come up with this kind of indepth life plan, and now it requires minutes of input. It’s something that I share with my husband and also my kids and we refine it together.

This AI-powered plan takes into account the natural rhythms of life—the changing seasons, my children’s developmental stages, and even my personal goals. It serves as a brainstorming guide for our family, helping us stay proactive and intentional with our time. Every season of life is fleeting, and this system ensures that we take advantage of every precious moment.

Of course, my children will ultimately decide their own paths, but my role is to equip them with knowledge, skills, and opportunities. By leveraging AI, I can be deliberate about their development, ensuring they have every opportunity to become well-rounded, capable, and confident individuals. Eventually, they will take over this role for themselves.

This approach doesn’t just apply to parenting—I use it in my personal life, relationships, and business as well. AI isn’t just a tool for efficiency; it’s a powerful ally in shaping a purposeful life. It gathers ideas from countless other parents, educators, and industry experts and presents them in a way that helps me brainstorm and refine my plans. These AI-generated insights act as a launching pad for deeper research and decision-making, making it one of the most valuable tools I use in building a meaningful future for my children—and myself.
